What is Hip Joint?

The hip joint acts as the main connection between the upper and lower body. Hip joints help the body to maintain balance and carry its weight to support movements and body function like standing, walking and running. The hip joint looks a like a ball which is perfectly placed in a socket of the hip bone and is crucial in maintaining normal movement of the body. Sometimes the hip joint gets affected due to age or injury which immediately needs medical attention. At BLK Super Speciality is one of the best hip replacement surgery hospitals India with some of the finest Hip replacement surgeons in its core team at the Orthopaedic hospital in India.

Hip Replacement Surgery

Just like any other joint replacement surgery the major factors which lead an orthopaedic to the Operation theatre for a hip replacement surgery are Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid arthritis, Osteonecrosis or dislocation of hip bone due to some injury. In all these conditions patients suffer from unbearable pain in his hip joint and in case of injury becomes immobile until the treatment. Hip replacement surgery in India is not an uncommon procedure and is very successful in helping patients to get rid of unbearable pain and discomfort.

Age is also one of the major factors, as in the grey years of a person the bones become fragile and prone to fractures a minor injury can result in dislocation of a joint. BLK Super Speciality Hospital has fully-equipped Orthopaedic centre with a dedicated team of doctors and surgeons who have high success rate in conducting hip replacement surgery along with offering post-surgery care and rehabilitation which is very crucial in returning back to normal routine.

The Hip replacement Surgery

BLK Super Speciality Hospital offers the most advanced treatment with its cutting edge technology. Hip replacement surgery is conducted through minimal invasive technique. The patient is admitted a day before the surgery. During the procedure, a very small incision is made on the thigh which helps a surgeon in reaching the affected ball portion of the hip which is replaced by an implant made of cement or special material. The doctor then closes the opening.

After the hip replacement surgery

You can start walking the next of your surgery but only with the help of walker. Your orthopaedic will recommend a stay of at least 2-3 days so that you learn all the rules to be followed after the hip replacement surgery. The full recovery time in case of a hip replacement surgery is 6-12 months and proper precaution has to be taken in order to return back to your normal routine:

For anywhere from six to 12 months after hip replacement surgery, pivoting or twisting on the involved leg should be avoided. You should also not cross the involved leg past the midline of the body nor turn the involved leg inward and you should not bend at the hip past 90 degrees. This includes both bending forward at the waist and squatting.

  • Use walker for at least 6-8 weeks.
  • Do not pivot or twist your leg for at least 6 months
  • Do not cross your legs while sitting
  • Put a cushion/pillow on your chair while sitting so that your legs fold in 90 degree angle
  • Place a pillow between your legs while laying down
  • Do not lie on the side of the surgery
